Wokeness

The term wokeness – in German, awakening – describes a broad awareness of racist, sexist and social discrimination. Meanwhile, the word is often instrumentalized by conservatives and the right to disparage the goals and political commitment of the left. Criticism of social power structures is then dismissed as a symbolic gesture and self-dramatization, or else presented as a dangerous and morally insane threat to one’s way of life.
